The first commission for the new year will come from multi-disciplinary artist Michael Fikaris, whose practice ranges from painting to publishing to illustration to installation, and so on. Michael is a highly active member of the Melbourne arts community and runs classes, workshops, launches and other interactive events week in, week out, as well as having painted an impressive amount of murals locally and internationally. Also member of the high-energy duo Bogano, his style is marked by a partly humorous and partly vitriolic sense of inquiry, which makes for very interesting results.
Michael is also the founder and leading figure of the not-for-profit Silent Army collective, and has spearheaded the publication of over a hundred books, comics and zines over the past two decades.
His commission for the Art Club will include a glimpse of these past activities as well as include an original artwork of unseen material specifically for our members.
